Common questions

Does the app pay my bills or connect to my bank?
No. BillVault never asks for bank logins, card numbers or account credentials. A bill can hold a link to the biller's own website, and the Pay button simply opens that site so you pay them directly.
Where are my bills stored?
On your iPhone. If you are signed in to iCloud, BillVault also keeps a copy in your private iCloud database so your iPad, Mac and Apple Watch stay in step. Only you can read it. Nothing is sent to the developer.
How does the assistant work? Does my data go to a server?
Bill scanning runs on Apple Intelligence on the iPhone itself, and photos never leave it. Everyday questions in the Ask tab, such as what is due or what your bills add up to, are answered by the app from your own figures with no model at all. On iOS 27, a harder question, Reason it through, the daily briefing, a drafted cancellation letter and the naming of charges during a statement import can use Apple's larger model on Private Cloud Compute: Apple designed it so that nothing is stored and Apple itself cannot read it, and you can switch it off under Settings, after which everything stays on your iPhone. Nothing ever goes to the developer. Every number the assistant shows is calculated by the app, not guessed by the model. Apple Intelligence needs a supported iPhone with it turned on in Settings.
Why does Reason it through take a while?
It calls the app's tools several times and checks every figure before it answers. On the iPhone alone, twenty to sixty seconds is normal, longer right after the phone restarts; on iOS 27 with Private Cloud Compute it is usually faster.
How do I import a bank statement?
Export a CSV or PDF statement from your bank or card app, then open it from Home with Import statement, or share it straight to BillVault from the Files app or your bank's app. Start with your last three months so monthly charges show up as repeating, then add one statement a month to keep recurring charges up to date.
What does Pro include, and how do I cancel?
Pro removes the limits: unlimited scanning and assistant questions, statement import, net worth, the card vault and unlimited budgets and goals. It is sold through Apple as a yearly plan with a free week, a monthly plan, or a one-time lifetime purchase, and it includes Family Sharing. Manage or cancel a subscription in Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Is the app lock safe?
Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode unlock the app through Apple's own system prompt. BillVault never sees your face data or passcode, and it stores no PIN of its own.
Can I use it on my Apple Watch, iPad or Mac?
Yes. The Watch app and complication show what is due and let you mark a bill paid from your wrist. The iPad app is included, and the same app runs on Apple silicon Macs from the Mac App Store.
How do I back up or delete my data?
More, then Settings, then Backup exports everything as a JSON file you own, and restores it later. Deleting the app removes all local data; turning off iCloud for BillVault in Settings removes the iCloud copy.
Reminders stopped arriving.
Check that notifications are allowed for BillVault in Settings, and that Due-date reminders are on under More, then Settings. Reminders are scheduled on the device, so they work without internet.
